New to WFH? We got you!

1) Create a morning routine - and stick to it!

Get up at the same time you normally would. You can use the extra time to work out, go for a run, prepare a healthy breakfast, read a book, stare into the endless abyss - whatever you fancy. Keeping a daily routine will help you get back to normal when this whole ordeal blows over.

2) Maintain Regular working hours

Working from home needs to be treated the same way a normal working day would, which means working only your scheduled hours and taking normal lunch breaks. It can be difficult to switch off the computer at the end of the day when working remotely, but keeping a healthy work/life balance will really save your sanity. That last email can wait until the morning!

3) Create a dedicated working space

You need a place that can be associated with work time. It’ll help your productivity and make you less likely to get distracted. Working from the sofa with the TV on will hinder your ability to concentrate. In an ideal world, you’ll have a desk space with your usual work set-up, but not everyone has that luxury. If you have to work from the dining room table, then make sure it’s a distraction-free zone and the people you share your home with respect this too.

4) Communicate

If you work in an office you’ll most likely be used to messaging platforms like Slack, Microsoft Teams, Google Hangouts etc. - or at the very least, email (insert eye-rolling emoji). Use these to keep colleagues updated with what you’re working on, or just for a chat if you’re tired of listening to the deafening voice of your inner monologue.

5) Stay positive!

The circumstances under which you’re having to work from home aren’t exactly ideal, but having the opportunity to continue working whilst social distancing isn’t something that should be taken for granted. There are many people who work in industries where remote work isn’t a possibility, so try to stay positive - it could be much worse!

6) End the day with a routine

The same way you start the day with a routine, it helps to end the day with one too. Tell your colleagues you’re signing off, take the dog out for a walk, go for another run, meditate - whatever you choose to do, do it daily to mark the end of the working day.

7) Wash your goddamn hands

Please.
