3D Anamorphic Digital Billboard Advertising.

What are 3D Anamorphic Billboards and how do they work?

3D Anamorphic Billboards, or simply 3D Billboards, are normal video ads created with 3D software that play on digital billboard screens and are designed in a way that tricks the viewer’s perception from a determined viewpoint and angle.

As the name suggests, they are a type of digital out-of-home advertising, or outdoor advertising, and can be placed/played on any LED or video-capable screen. Flat, curved or cornered, it doesn’t really matter, since for example, a 3D depth can always be accomplished.

Since 3D Billboards offer three-dimensional content and immerse the viewer, they’ve become an instant hit with brands since they lead to higher attention and engagement, and can be leveraged in PR campaigns since they fuel consumers’ imagination.

A powerful mix of entertainment, technology and marketing that is lasting and impactful making it one of the most relevant and engaging outdoor advertising formats.

Frequently Asked Questions.

  • A 3D anamorphic billboard is a type of outdoor advertising display designed to create the illusion of three-dimensional objects or scenes when viewed from a specific angle. These billboards use optical illusions, forced perspective, and careful design to distort the image in a way that makes it appear as if it's popping out of or sinking into the billboard surface. This unique visual effect is intended to grab the attention of passersby and make billboard advertising more memorable.

  • A recent study, using Nielsen data, discovered the substantial impact of digital billboards on consumer recall. The study found that between 74% and 89% of travellers were able to remember at least one digital billboard advertisement. Industries such as entertainment, recreation, fast-food restaurants, televised sporting events, and gaming performed exceptionally well, aligning digital billboards as a potent tool for broad-reaching advertising in these spaces.

Moreover, the study revealed a positive attitude towards digital billboards. 71% of respondents believed that billboards effectively captured attention, even more so than online advertising, a finding of significance in an era marked by remote work. This underscores the continued importance of out-of-home advertising in an integrated marketing strategy.

Respondents also appreciated the immediacy and relevance of digital billboard advertising, with most considering it a source of current and pertinent information. Key statistics from the study include an 82% recall rate for advertising on billboards, 42% recall rate for individual digital billboard ads, and 65% viewing digital billboards as an excellent means of discovering new local businesses.

  • 3D anamorphic billboards work by manipulating perspective and visual cues to create the illusion of depth and three-dimensionality. Here are the key success factors:

Design: Artists and designers create a 2D image that, when viewed from a specific angle, appears as a distorted or stretched image. This design often looks distorted and unnatural from other angles.

Viewing Angle: The key to the illusion is the viewing angle. To perceive the image correctly, viewers must stand at a particular spot or angle relative to the billboard.

Placement: The billboard is strategically placed in a location where pedestrians or drivers have a clear line of sight to the designated viewing angle. This location is often marked to guide viewers to the correct spot.

Viewing Experience: When viewers stand at the correct angle, the distorted image aligns with their perspective, creating the illusion of a three-dimensional scene or object that appears to "pop out" from the billboard surface.
