Mall Advertising Case Studies

One Day Agency used digital mall advertising in Visit Jordan's Kingdom of Time launch, a European campaign delivered across six countries and eleven cities in a two-week planning window.

Mall advertising was chosen deliberately for a travel brand, because mall screens reach more affluent retail audiences who are typically more likely to spend on travel and tourism products. We ran digital malls at Westfield London and Canary Wharf, and at the Trafford Centre and Arndale in Manchester, with further mall activity in Rome, Milan, Paris and Lyon. Retail environments gave Jordan high-dwell exposure to shoppers in a spending mindset, complementing the transit and roadside formats carrying the campaign elsewhere.

The campaign delivered 359.5 million estimated impressions across 1,597 delivered screens and sites, against 1,062 originally booked, with 535 secured as added value.

One Day Agency used shopping mall advertising for UNiDAYS as part of Ready For Anything, the brand's first out-of-home campaign, built around freshers.

Students spend time in malls, particularly in the weeks they are kitting out a new room and finding their way around a new city, which makes mall advertising a natural fit for a student discount platform. We selected main shopping malls across five key cities to raise consideration, placing the brand in retail environments where discount messaging lands at the point of purchase intent. Malls sat within a wider frequency plan of London Underground tube car panels, key station sites, large roadside billboards and bus advertising, with eye-level digital 6-sheets at student halls and ad bikes at universities.

Budget was weighted by student population density. The campaign pushed awareness and intent 100% above 2021, breaking a decline running since 2017.

One Day Agency used indoor retail and mall-environment screens as part of YouFibre's rebrand to You, across 25 UK towns and cities in a three month window.

Retail environments mattered because the campaign was hyperlocal by design. The objective was converting impressions into sign-ups among newly connected households, so we needed inventory in immediate proximity to those postcodes, and indoor retail screens, including supermarket screens and elevator wraps, put the brand in front of residents going about their weekly routine rather than passing at speed. No two towns shared a media mix and we rotated three creative messages per town.

In total the campaign ran more than 1,600 sites across seven media owners, delivering over 240 million impressions at a £2.50 average CPM, the fastest sign-up momentum in the brand's history and its highest ever peak in awareness.

Retail Advertising for ButternutBox

One Day Agency included shopping malls in the media plan that took Butternut Box, the fresh dog food subscription brand, into the Irish market.

Malls were chosen for dwell rather than reach. A subscription product needs more than a glance, and mall environments give an audience that is already shopping the time to absorb a proposition they have never encountered. We mapped the brand's audience across retail parks, supermarkets, shopping malls and roadside routes, then mixed digital 6-sheets, 96-sheets and digital 96-sheets so the campaign had eye-level repetition and large-format trust in the same locations.

Isolating activity to one region let us measure properly against a control group using Google Trends, organic and paid brand search and direct traffic. Awareness rose substantially and subscriptions lifted, with their Marketing Manager saying we had done "a smashing job.”
