🎨 Stroop Colour Test

What is it?

The Colour Stroop Test is a classic psychology experiment used to measure selective attention and cognitive interference, how your brain handles misleading or conflicting information.

How does it work?

You’ll see a colour word (e.g. “BLUE”) written in a different ink colour (e.g. yellow). Your job is to press the key that matches the INK colour, not the word.
Your brain wants to read the word, not identify the colour, creating a tiny mental conflict that slows you down.
The test tracks accuracy and reaction time over 20 rounds.

Why use it?

Because it simulates what modern digital environments constantly force our brains to do:

  • Resolve conflicting signals

  • Focus on the right piece of information

  • Filter noise

  • Respond under cognitive load

It’s a fun way to understand how attention gets hijacked, and how easily it can be redirected.

Assumptions

  • Stroop performance is influenced by reading fluency, attention level and distractions.

  • Not a medical assessment — just a playful benchmark.

  • Results vary day-to-day and person-to-person.

Brain Gym at One Day Agency

Advertising lives inside crowded, noisy digital spaces. Users face conflicting visuals, mixed messages, and endless information.
The Stroop effect mirrors that environment, showing how quickly (or slowly) the brain can prioritise the “right” stimulus when multiple cues compete for attention.

At One Day, we design creative that cuts through that interference.
Great ads reduce cognitive friction: clear message hierarchy, strong visual anchors, and standout cues that make the right information impossible to ignore.
This game is a small, interactive reminder of how critical clarity, contrast and fast recognition are in high-performing campaigns.
